NPCC Launches A National Productivity Campaign to Promote Productivity Consciousness

NPCC Launches A National Productivity Campaign to Promote Productivity Consciousness

Productivity plays a key role in the generation of wealth of a nation as it ensures effective and efficient use of resources. For a country like Mauritius, given its limited resources, it is imperative to sustain economic growth through productivity gains. A productive nation can boldly face competition and other challenges in both the local and global environment. Countries which achieve high productivity aspire to an affluent life since as productivity levels increase, the ultimate goal of raising the standard of living of the people will be realised whereas those with low productivity end up in poverty.

On 17th October 2012, the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council launched the National Productivity Campaign 2012-2013 on the theme ‘Travay pli bien, Dimé dan bien’. The overall aim of the campaign is to focus on the term productivity, to demystify the word productivity by popularising different perspectives of productivity as lived by people in the different sectors of the Mauritian economy, ranging from agriculture to manufacturing, from corporate bodies to citizens at grass root level and from potential entrepreneurs to NGOs.

It is expected that through the National Productivity Campaign the local population will get a shared understanding of the term productivity and realise that productivity is not just confined to a few but is in fact everywhere and is everybody’s business. Every citizen be it at home, at the workplace, a youngster, an employer / employee, a student, a professional or a retired person can mean productivity, and each can live productivity in his own way. It is also hoped that the campaign will encourage participation from all quarters of the Mauritian life and that the whole nation will rally behind the productivity movement so that we can showcase models of productivity in terms of good management / personal practices, teamwork, good customer care, innovation, do-it smarter companies, etc.

An advertising campaign has been launched since mid January 2013 to keep the momentum rolling on with billboards with our productivity slogan displayed all over the island.

Since February, NPCC has embarked on a sensitisation campaign where employees from different sectors will be initiated to productivity concepts. Companies interested in this two-hour sensitisation programme can contact us at natpro@intnet.mu
